Dear Mr. Vernon,
I have to thank you for your letter of the 7th instant reference 82765/31, enclosing copies of telegrams from the Governors of the Straits Settlements and Hong Kong regarding the inauguration of wireless services between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, Java, Saigon and Manila, and between Hong Kong and Japan respectively.
With regard to the suggested services from
Kuala Lumpur we feel that as the inauguration of such services would be contrary to the spirit of paragraph 44 of the Report of the Imperial Wireless and Cable Conference 1928, consideration of this question should be deferred until the conclusion of the proposed agree-
ment with this Company, which is now in the hands of
the Colonial Office.

Hong Kong : In our letter of the 2nd September
we expressed our readiness to take over the Hong Kong local services at the earliest possible date, and there-
fore we feel that no action should be taken by the
Government in regard to the service with Japan pending
the completion of our agreement, as in our opinion the
existing cable facilities are sufficient to meet the
requirements of the traffic.
Lely
Yours sincerely
General Manager
